I was watching the “tiny houses” TV show last night. What an interesting idea. If we have room for a bunch of shit we usually fill it up. If we don’t have room, we don’t fill it up. Same is true for our time. The holidays coming up fast and then it’s the new year. Everyone thinks ahead of how they will make next year better than the last. I for one want to simplify and make my box smaller so I don’t fill it up so much. In the show the people talked of still having all the same experiences. How is that possible? How many people actually only work a 40-hour week anymore? Or are we filling our day up with busy work? Could we have a way to get it all done in a shorter amount of time?
Tim Ferris wrote The Four Hour Work Week, which talks about delegating, using technology and only doing the most important things to shorten your day. I think of the 80/20 rule here. 80% of the value comes from 20% of the effort. I’m still working on this in my life. I now make basketball games and school functions a priority now. I have a friend who has a shared calendar with his wife to track when the school functions are and who is taking each child where. I like this idea.
I’m almost ready to share a project with you that applies to what I’ve been writing about lately.
